EnglishCentral is a very flexible platform. We recommend EC be part of a blended solution - part of a school mark and extra practice for language students who are studying in a class. But there are many ways to use EC - ranging from homework use to a full self directed study option. Read these case studies for some examples of other schools using EC.
Yes! We will take a look and let you know if it meets our content guidelines. Please send a link to your recommended video by way of email to - email@example.com
It's easy. When you create your teacher account, you create a school account. First thing to do is to create a class. Then, set goals for the students. After that, add video lessons or courses by searching video lessons or courses and selecting "Add to Class". Finally, invite students by sharing with them your unique class page URL/link. Or use our invite system to send the students the link directly. See our full set up tutorial video here.
Visit our About page. There you can learn about our product, get our latest corporate news and find out more about our team and valued partners.
Yes. Send us a spreadsheet for the class (or a tab for each class) with students names and email addresses. We will pre-enroll them and they can visit the class page directly (or click their "My Class" tab) and start studying. They will appear in your school and class list under "Manage" in the Teacher Tools.
Classes can be as large as you wish, there is no limit. Private teachers, teaching one on one, have classes just for one student. Large universities have thousands in a class.
We make this simple. First, remove the student from the first class (note their email address). Next, enroll the student in the second class. Click "enroll student" and add their email address. Or simply ask the student(s) to visit the class page URL and enroll directly.
We allow teachers to put an announcement on their class page which students will see. Add links and put up as many as you like. Currently we only allow teachers to send an enrollment invite email. To notify individual students teachers will have to use their own email or the school LMS.
We recommend to use weekly goals. Our own studies also show that students must consistently study and complete 5 video lessons (5 Watch | 25 Learn | 5 Speak) minimum weekly in order to make progress in fluency.
All goals on the site are due to be completed at 11:59pm GMT, the day that they are set to be due. We show both teachers and students this due time. For example, a teacher in New York sets the goals due on Friday. They will be due the next Friday at 11:59pm GMT or locally, 7:59pm EST. We recommend setting goals due the day before class so you can check student achievement.
Students need to change the setting in the player so they can speak the whole video. By default, the player only is set to 5 lines for speaking in each video. Students must open the player settings and de-select "Focus Speak Mode". Then they can speak more lines / video and get more points.
Yes, if you set "Apply Class Goals To" to "Only the courses or videos I select. This makes class content study mandatory to achieve goals. If you just want to recommend videos or courses for students to study, select the setting on the right, "Any course or video".

It will be added to your curriculum and class page where students will see it to study. The same with courses in our course catalog.

Yes. Students need to change the "Focus Speak Mode" in the settings of the player. We also recommend students de-select the setting "Auto Advance After Recording". Best for students to manually go to the next line so they have enough time to review their speech feedback after speaking a line.
Slow down a video by clicking the "Repeat" button. We automatically slow down the line when you repeat it a second time.
When a student does WATCH, all lines must be green to complete a video. Yellow means it is only partly watched.
When a student does SPEAK, feedback is given and lines are GREEN (excellent), YELLOW (average) and RED (below average). Red lines will force the student to listen to their own recording and then speak the line again to try to improve. Students should re-speak all lines and turn them yellow or green. Find out more by reading our comprehensive report about our Intellispeech feedback system.
